Today was one of those days that you just have to stop every five minutes and take a picture - and I love those days! The 12 minute drive to Witcher quickly turned into more than 30, but the opportunity to stop and take photos was just too great a temptation!
Branding days are days that seem to bring history back to the and carrying on a tradition that is still very much a necessity to ranch life. We no longer build a fire to heat the iron, but the roping and wrasslin' are techniques brought forward from the old days. And the comradery between everyone involved is something that has held ranching communities together for generations.
Beyond all that, Colorado weather always adds to the jovial atmosphere. Last year, I remember a hot sun; this year we went from cloudy, to a few snow flakes, to a typical spring snow storm.
By the time I returned home in the afternoon, the snow was gone and the songbirds had returned. Of course, as I finish typing, the big fat spring flakes have returned and are starting to accumulate. Just a good 'ol Colorado Spring day on the ranch.
A warm spring day at the end of March means gettin' outside and enjoying it around here - so a bike ride it was, and 5 minutes later a run in with a rocky path made for our first chance to document the day! Nice scrape buddy! Then, we had to decide which way to go...
This weekend a friend and I went down to Monte Vista, Colorado to the Crane Festival. Thousands of Sandhill Cranes, Canada Geese and other birds stop over and feed in the corn fields in Monte Vista for a couple weeks before continuing their migration North. I love all the sets of perpendicular lines in this photo and how they make me want to jump back inside it!

The start of a new year always brings looking back on the past year and looking forward to the new year - did you complete last year's goals and what will you work to attain this year? So here's goes for my goals!
1. To complete a 365 day photo challenge
2. To complete enough crochet projects in order to be a part of a bazaar next December
Every year I wish I would have used my Blipfoto account more, so this year I'm going to post my photo a day to Blipfoto. Here is the link to my Blip home page.
Through the Click It Up a Notch blog, I've also linked up with some other photographers who are working on a 365 challenge. I think it will be a great way to see other's work and to encourage each other along the way! Click the button below to see the other photographers working on this.
I also spend a bit of time every December wandering through all the holiday bazaars that are around town, and every year I wish I had worked on some items that I could have sold at one. This year, along with my list of gifted projects to complete, I hope to have some items I can take to a bazaar. Thanks to a fun pattern I found on Pinterest and some extra crochet time during the holiday, I already have a bit of a start.
I really love these candy cane striped Christmas stars and think they will look really cute tied onto a gift and then up on a Christmas tree! Thanks to The New Crochet for the awesome pattern. The only change I made was to use a button and 6 inches of ribbon for the hanger inside of crocheted chains.
2014 was a great year with exciting adventures, and through the grace of God I know that 2015 will be full of blessings as well! Have a wonderful New Year!
Welcoming a new baby is such an amazing gift from God. Mom, Dad, and big brother Owen are so excited to have Oliver join their family!
If it's hard for me to believe this little man is 1 year old, I can only imagine how his Mama feels. I have definitely enjoyed coming to his house to take photos this past year, and his Mama always has some great ideas and setups, making it fun and easy for me to come in and take photos.
By the time he was finished, there was quite the little mess - thank goodness for pups that love to clean up!
Yes, this site was originally built for Heirlooms in Progress...
and Yes, since that was done, Lucky Shoe Photography has been the business element in my life that has grown!
so, Yes, I've redesigned the site, but kept the original URL, to include both of my memory making and memory keeping passions!
With so much friendly encouragement, I am enjoying seeing my creative talents being used and appreciated, which has also motivated me to continue to educate myself in the art of photography and to finish many of those yarn crafted, but yet to be yarn-finished projects!
As my business continues to grow, please continue to come back and see what's new. Through this blog you will find the beginnings, middles, and ends of my client projects both fiber and (digital) film!
Thanks for stopping by, and feel free to browse around!
all my best, jessie
